About
Off to Holland to have another crack at road racing, with an increased motivation and passion to succeed this time…..I’m doing it for Mick….as well as myself of course…read and watch hopefully some success stories come through.
Back home I’m a dietitian, and enjoy my work with the older community.
I took up cycle racing at the age of 15 after attempting to ride a mtb with panniers across the Nullabor Plains to Perth with my father and brother. We only made it to Adelaide, but none the less I was quite fit when we got home and I took up track racing with Bendigo and Districts cycling Club.
I raced road and track socially until I turned 17, where I chose to focus on studies instead, completed my VCE, enjoyed my late teens and eventually made my way up to Newcastle for University. I came across some people who raced road bikes and they got me back on the horse as you would say, and I came across an amazing coach called Mick Chapman. Mick taught me to suffer on the bike, he gave me the tools to train correctly and hopefully be a great cyclist as well as confidence in myself and my riding ability.
Although it has taken me a bit longer than others, I have finally started utilising these tools he provided me with over the last 8 months, and know although he has passed he would be proud of me now.

Hi kate, I was just reading your blogs re-post on Eddie’s (from Bendigo) mail out and suddenly it occurred to me who you are. I’m a mate of your mums, and shes always banging on about her famous daughter. We actually met down at Barwon Heads when the world champs were on, I had dinner at your place. Your blog is great and reads really well. I have a little more knowledge of racing than joe average, and so I know you really underscore just how hard it is and how well you’re going. Keep dancing on the pedals, fighting for position and the rewards will come. No-one can smile like that and be hurting that much without being a winner.
Cheers Kev FORD
Cheers Kevin, Thanks for the encouragement, the more I continue to ride, the more little opportunity’s keep popping up, and I figure as long as I’m learning and improving each race I will continue to improve and get that break through soon
Kate
